The Group of Ministers has decided that a facility has to be available for editing GSTR-3B. This comes as good news to all the taxpayers.

This has been done because the GoM said that the challenges in the technology platform still exists. And one of the major problems is non-availability of editing facility for the traders since the last three months.

More than 200,000 traders faced difficulties in the last three months due to not having editing facility in GSTR-3B return filing.

To remedy this, the GSTN has decided to launch a facility for businesses to make changes to their August and September months GSTR-3B return forms.

The GoM has asked Infosys to provide options in the utility which allows preview, edit, validate, show pop-ups and error message amongst other options.

The GoM was formed to look at the information technology (IT) problems of the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN). The system is becoming stable and this has reflected in the gradual reduction in revenue shortfall from states.

The Finance Minister of Telangana Eatala Rajender suggested the GSTN that the IT services to all the stakeholders should share the data of States, especially on returns and registrations.

Mr. Rajender raised some issues at the meeting of Group of Ministers (GoM) on GSTN at Bengaluru on Nov 18 such as:

  • Editing facility of GSTR-3B
  • Developing MIS reports
  • Rectification of offline utility issues
  • Enabling withdrawal of composition option
  • Enabling amendment of core fields
  • Strengthening the helpline and deputing engineers to States

Functionalities from the GoM meeting

The meeting reviewed the status and functioning of GST portal and stage release of various functionalities. Mr. Modi emphasized the importance of IT for the success of GST.

After deliberations, the committee took decisions allowing the assessees to edit GSTR-3B. Also, it was decided that two engineers from the service provider Infosys will be deputed to each of the states in a week’s time.  This is done so that they will be able to help in resolving IT issues faced by the taxpayers.

It was also decided to have another meeting of the committee within 15 days. To review the improvement of various issues and also to fix deadlines on individual aspects.
